See moonrise and the best time to look tonight, in the app →Why the phase is the same everywhere
The phase depends only on where the moon is in its orbit relative to the sun, so everyone on Earth sees the same phase on the same night. What changes with your location is when the moon rises and sets, and which way up the lit side appears: in the Southern Hemisphere the moon looks flipped compared with the Northern Hemisphere.
Illumination and moon age
Illumination is the share of the disc lit by the sun as seen from Earth. Moon age counts the days since the last new moon. A full lunar cycle, from one new moon to the next, takes about 29.5 days.

aluni shows the phase on your home screen and Lock Screen, and tells you when the moon clears the hills around you tonight.
